I am planning to practice cobol in winows7.I installed ms cobol in my PC but it s throwing compatability error.And says you need 64bit cobol compiler to practice becoz my computer is 64bit one and cobol compler what am using is 32bit.I searched in google but am not clear what to install and how to practce at home.Please help me how i can practice cobol at home.Am desperatley in need of it.Plz plz help me. Thanks in advance.

I have GNU-Cobol (same thing as OpenCobol) installed on a RedHat Enterprise Linux 7 virtual machine running through VMWare Workstation installed on a Windows 8.1 host. You may wish to try CentOS 7 if you do not wish to purchase a RHEL subscription. Install the fix pack with the same user account that installed the product. IBM COBOL for Windows, Version 7.6 must be installed. The product must be closed when you install this fix pack.

There's also a free-to-use version of CobolIT available. It will not run 16-bit programs, but you can install VirtualBOX (and install XP in that) to run them. Been there, done that, works like a charm.
